Need to know the very best of the best Rooftop Bars in Melbourne? Well you’ve landed in the right place, because today I’m here to share with you some local top picks.
Two of my favourite guilty pleasures are 1. enjoying this beautiful city from above; and 2. a cheeky vino/beer/cocktail… And boy do they go hand-in-hand at a rooftop session in Melbourne. It’s the perfect place to catch up with your squad, or celebrate a special occasion, you know, like Saturday!
Read on for some of my favourite picks from the Melbourne bar scene…
UNION ELECTRIC
13 Heffernan Lane, Melbourne
A hidden laneway gem in the heart of the city. I’ve been here during a storm, and on a sunny Summer’s evening, both times equally as ‘iconic Melbourne’ as it gets. Great cocktail menu, great service, and importantly great vibes! A hats off to their epic Gin selection too!
GOOD HEAVENS
79 Bourke Street, Melbourne
Good Heavens is the place to be for a rooftop Sunday sesh. Located amongst the cool-chic of Bourke Street (and conveniently right above their already said established restaurant Fancy Hanks), it’s the bar to take in a pretty outlook of the city and sip on wine, craft beer or a big selection of cocktails – we recommend the ‘Heavens to Betsy’.
The fit out features bright colour bursts (hello 80’s!) whilst sticking close to their Americana/Palm Springs theme. The food menu continues to showcase their skills using a barbeque with menu options such as: Southern Fried Chicken, Chicken Ribs and Nachos with brisket mole and queso.
ROOFTOP BAR
Curtin House, 252 Swanston Street, Melbourne
If the name doesn’t say it all, then let it’s Rooftop Cinema be your back up plan! Melbourne’s Rooftop Cinema at Rooftop Bar is the perfect way to catch a flick with your bestie this summer. Showcasing classic films, nostalgic favourites and recent releases in a completely unique environment, amongst Melbourne’s beautiful nightlight skyline.
Book your tickets early and head along to Curtain House in the CBD for some bevies, some popcorn, and the ultimate movie session in the city.
ROOFTOP AT QT
11/133 Russell Sreett, Melbourne
For an incredible view over the city, round up your Baes and head to the ultra-chic Rooftop at QT. The bar is luxe and sophisticated, the perfect place to escape the busy CBD streets for a martini.
Be warned, they do have a strict dress code, so in the words of Coco herself… “Dress like you’re going to meet your worst enemy.”
BOMBA
103 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne
This is THE rooftop bar to get your Spanish tapas fix in Melbourne! It’s a hot spot for Friday night drinks and they serve up a great list of cocktails, beer, wine, and an enviable gin list!
Indulge in a bevvie, alfresco style, whilst overlooking the city through the Lonsdale Street treetops. Nibble on some tasty tapas – I recommend their potatoes and lamb bites (sorry, I can’t remember their actual names LOL). You can also head downstairs to their restaurant for a more intimate dinner.
MADAME BRUSSELS
59 Bourke Street, Melbourne
This place gets our vote for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party style rooftop abode in Melbourne! One for the Johnny Depp/cuppa tea and a biscuit lovers out there, who also like to indulge in a cocktail every now and then (hey, who doesn’t).
With quirky grass flooring, super cool staff getting around in old-school tennis whites, and epic views down and across Bourke Street, Madame Brussels is the place to be for tasty cheese boards and chic toasts on the deck with your girls.
NAKED FOR SATAN
285 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy
Fitzroy is one of the capital cultural suburbs of Melbourne. Head to Naked for Satan for the best views of the CBD from a-far, especially while the night lights are twinkling.
The drinks are a touch on the pricey side, but it’s totally worth it for a special night out. Be sure to grab a bite downstairs if you’re hungry, for a good value snack.
THE CORNER
57 Swan Street, Richmond
A long-time favourite and recently renovated, the Corner rooftop bar in Richmond has great live tunes and a delicious pub style menu.
An institution for locals who love all things music, pub grub and sport… Be sure to stop by after a Friday night footy match, for one of their trivia evenings, or even a tequila masterclasses ~ Salud!
THE EMERSON
141-145 Commercial Road, South Yarra
The Emerson’s rooftop is known for a cracking Melbourne party. If you’re worried about the cold, never fear… The rooftop is completely enclosed and they’re not shy when it comes to cranking the heaters up to keep you toasty, comfortable and warm if the weather drops.
The food is always amazing and guess what?! You can book out the space for your birthday or work Christmas party, so keep it bookmarked for a great night out!
